Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV412.

Vis=26/11/1953 (os) no visible indications of monastic site. Probably demolished and re-built as the farm and outbuildings. Strictly speaking this was a preceptory.1338 survey referred to. Soon after this date it appears to have been absorbed into buckland priory, somerset, although the chapel was maintained and a chaplain provided until 16th century (chanter).

Bodmescombe priory, near uffculme, was founded 1160 by warin de aula and his wife, for the knights hospitallers.(masterman). Founded sometime after 1200 and dissolved before 15th century. Net income over £64 in 1338. There was one brother besides the preceptor, with a chaplain, a clerk, and others. It appears to have been absorbed into buckland abbey in the 14th or 15th centuries. Cove (ss91ne/24) was a small member of bodmescombe (knowles + hadcock).

Bodmescombe priory was not in the diocese of exeter but was a peculiar of the many charters of the preceptory are to be found in the cartulary of buckland abbey, somerset (rose-troup).
