Hatherleigh shown on 19th century Tithe Map as three buildings on the north, west and south sides of a rectilinear yard.

Hatherleigh shown on 19th century map as a group of three large and several small buildings around a square yard at the end of a track to the east of Hatherleigh Lane.

Site visited on 29th February 1984. At Hatherleigh, a Late Medieval dwelling forms the north side of the farmyard. Last occupied circa 1890. Cob on stone plinth. Internal screen, circa 1475-1500. Medieval roof timbers preserved intact.

Hatherleigh Farmhouse at SX79628068 was recorded and partially excavated prior to demolition in 1984. Four phases of construction were identified:
Phase I: (pre-1600). Open hall plan, with central hearth and cross-passage towards the Western end.
Phase II: (C17th or C18th). The Western end was extended and the Eastern end screened off, in a three-room-and-cross-passage plan.
Phase III: The South-East wall was rebuilt, a doorway to the Eastern room being added, and a spinal staircase inserted in the central room.
Phase IV: (late C19th/early C20th). A second fireplace was added at he East end, and a lean-to building was also added at the East end.
