FORTESCUE, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV10538.

At coppa dolla farm, torbryan. The site of a medieval farmstead. Author gives possible explanation of the origin of the name based on medieval english for "pollarded alder" (fortescue).

Coppa dolla is first mentioned in the recovery rolls of 1660. The meaning is the same as the above reference. The present quaint spelling seems to be fairly modern (gover et al).
