It was one of the king's holdings at Domesday, formerly Earl Brictric's, by the mid-13th century it was held by the Regnys.

Ashreigney. At Domesday it was called Aissa. The Regnys were lords of the manor from at least 1219. Otherwise called Rings Ash. In the medieval period it absorbed the smaller Domesday estates. The 18th-19th century history is also touched on
