Full description

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1982, SX78NE35, plan, plate (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV295865.

(06/01/1982) On Mardon Down at SX 77468795 and approximately 328m. O.D. lie the possible remains of a kerbed cairn with cist. The bracken covered mound is very much disturbed and appears generally sub-rectangular measuring some 8m. E/W and 7m. N/S with a height of 0.6m.
Set within the mound are one large and two smaller stone slabs, on edge and parallel in NW/SE alignment (see plan). The material between has been removed to a depth of 0.4m. giving the appearance of a cist.
On the northern edge of the mound three of the four stones set on edge give the impression of a kerb. The fourth may have come from the central feature or be a misalignment from the other three caused when the material to the north was removed.
Surveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D. and 1:100 for clarification.

Ordnance Survey, 2014, MasterMap (Cartographic). SDV355681.

Cairn shown.
