HER Number:MDV20176
Name:BARROW in the Parish of Honiton

Summary

A cairn, apparently unrecorded, was exposed at above ngr during re-afforestation ploughing in 1964-5. Excavations in 1966 by sheila pollard revealed a possibly-robbed circular flint cairn. It covered a heavily ploughed central oval structure of flints and a possible cover stone. Five excentric pits contained wood carbon. Under the cairn was an internal ring of post holes and a central hole. No bones or grave goods were found. Flint core and 5 flakes in ra museum, exeter (pollard). Vis=11/11/1975 (os). Not located in dense plantation. Vis=23/2/1982 (os). Cairn seems to have been entirely removed during excavation, but its site can be deduced from unplanted indentation in plantation.
