Full description

Crowley, J., 1957, Sundials in North Devon, 181, (Article in Serial). SDV273904.

Gnomon placed diagonally on wall to compensate for incorrect orientation of latter. Signed by John Berry and dated 1764. Very elaborate dial; the lines of the tropics of cancer and capricorn and of the equator are shown; the symbols of the houses of the zodiac and also lines indicating midday at places as widely divergent as Samarcand, Mexico, Babylon, Lisbon, Paris. Berry may have copied this from William Leybourne's dialling. Motto: 'Memor esto brevis aevi'.
