Hayne referred to in a document of 1746.

Hayne is referred to in the Charter of Nymed, 974AD, which has been identified with this site.
Adams, A., 2007, Hayne, Zeal Monachorum, Devon (Un-published). SDV340868.
The name 'Hayne' means hedged enclosure. Fragments of 13th and possibly 12th century pottery show that it is an early farm site and it may be that referred to in a charter of AD974. Details of owners and tenants given from dissolution to 19th century. The Tithe Map shows that Hayne covered 125 acres in 1842.
