Name:Cairn on Lee Moor

Summary

One of a group of two cairns. A small mound, hollow in centre, turf covered but has stone core. Vis=4/9/1974 (grinsell). Two cairns at willings walls warren, both hollowed towards centre. Diam. Of first is 6.5m, height 0.3m, diam. Of second 5.5m, height 0.3m. Nb (fmg) there is a considerable similarity of description between these sites and those of sx56se/16. However, both pairs were visited by the same os investigator on the same day, and given different numbers. Vis=not recorded (rchm app 1985). Vis=estimated -/-/1991 (ancient monuments). This cairn with a cist lies on a w facing slope at the w end of lee moor, close to another cairn (sx56se/395). It consists of a mound 3m in diameter and 0.50m in height in an area with a lot of surface boulders. The cist is situated immediately to the e of a very large boulder; both side and end slabs are present, the n and s sides are at an angle, but the coverstone is missing. The cist is 1.30m in length and 1m in width and is 0.40m in depth. There are traces of a possible retaining kerb (ancient monuments).
