Full description

OLDHAM, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV170.

St. Mary's well. Bembridge woods. Revelry ascension day, also holy thursday, perhaps midsummer. Not healing; wishing well, pins. Vis=estimated -/-/1908 (oldham). A chalybeate spring which was used for the affectations of the eyes. Vis=estimated -/-/1840 (binnall). An analysis of the water showed no medicinal properties. Vis=6/11/1972 (os). This well chamber is built into the north slope and comprises a rather more than semi-circular stone rubble structure. The opening is on the north. There is no trough, and much rubble in the vicinity is probably the clearing of a collapsed dome roof.
