HER Number:MDV27694
Name:Field system on Yartor Down

Summary

A series of earthwork hedgebanks marking out the boundaries of abandoned medieval fields on the south and west slope of Vag Hill. Many of the boundaries re-use components of the prehistoric Dartmeet parallel Reave system but many additional banks were added to subdivide the reaves or to create new enclosures. The majority of the boundaries are earthen banks of up to 0.8m high, in many cases with external ditches, though these are often silted. Wall facings are present along some of the refurbished walls. Some of the boundaries comprise ditches only of up to 1.5m deep and on the eastern sector of the system, several of the re-used reaves have developed into moderate lynchets.
