Full description

(20/05/1980) At SX 56177022, 5.0m. to the north-east of a gap in a reave (SX 57 SE 119) there is a partly turf-covered cairn, 5.3m. in diameter and 0.5m. high, (see plan and ground photograph) It may have resulted from the gap formed in the reave, (though it is well detached from it) and the northern quadrant has been stripped subsequent to its construction (see ground photograph).
The cairn may not be prehistoric but is far from modern and could have an association with the footings of a building 5.0m. to the north (SX 57 SE 123). Surveyed at 1:10 000 on M.S.D., and at 1:50 (see illustration with SX 57 SE 123).

(1992) This cairn is situated on a gentle east-facing slope overlooking the valley of the River Meavy. The cairn mound measures 5.3m in diameter and stands up to 0.6m high. A hollow in the northern end of the mound, measuring 2m square by 0.5m deep, suggests partial early excavation or robbing. This cairn lies close to the leather tor reave and three other structures.

Butler, J., 1994, Dartmoor Atlas of Antiquities: Volume Three - The South-West, 40, Map 45 (Monograph). SDV137656.

A gutted cairn of circa 4.0 metres diameter by 0.3 metres high has been partly quarried away at '4' Sharpitor South-east.

Fletcher, M. J., 2007-2008, Walkhampton Premier Archaeological Landscape; Field Investigation Project (Report - Survey). SDV359195.

(31/05/2007) A Bronze Age cairn, 5m in diameter and a maximum O.6m high, constructed of stones and small boulders with a cutting in the north side. It lies to the south-east of the small structure (SX 57 SE 123) and adjacent to the reave. Surveyed and investigated at 1:2500 scale
