Full description

Hankin, C. F., 1977-1980, Harford Parish Checklist (Worksheet). SDV149931.

Cairn near Western Beacon elevation 342 metres OD. The cairn is low, overgrown with grass, and is about 68 metres south-east of the waterhole known as Black Pool on the Ugborough-Harford boundary line.

Site visited on 22nd July 1976. Oval cairn with east to west axis of 7.0 metres by 5.8 metres, height 0.2 metres.

Western Beacon cairn '12' at SX65555805 of 7.0 metres diameter by 0.4 metres high to the south-east of Black Pool is 25 metres east of Cairn '11'.

SX 65545808 An oval cairn with east to west axis sited on a saddle. Diameters 7 metres by 5.8 metres by 0.2 metres high.

This is one of a number of cairns which lie near the waterhole of Black Pool, located in the valley between Butterdon Hill and Western Beacon. The cairn lies east of the waterhole and is oval in shape. It consists of stone and earth, now turf-covered, and is 7 metres by 5 metres and is 0.3 metres high, with traces of a retaining kerb.

Site visited on 13th January 2021, surveyed and photographed. Small cairn south-east of Black Pool: 8 metres diameter, 0.6 metres high, small central hollow with mound on the west side. (Located 45 metres south-west of the Scheduled Monument location for this cairn)
