Two 'Tumuli' shown on 19th century map to the south-east of Moorland Gate.

Two round Barrows at Moorland Gate on the west edge of Burrington Moor. Mound b) is 70 foot (21.34 metres) diameter by up to 3 feet (0.91 metres) high and spread by ploughing.. Other details: Mound b.

The field is now cultivated, with a grass crop on it. However, said to be kept as permanent grass now. Barrow has very smooth profile. Diameter 35.5 metres north-west to south-east and 27 metres south-west to north east. Height estimated at 1.2-1.4 metres.

One of two round barrows situated at Moorland Gate. Together, they form part of a larger group between the two major river systems. This barrow survives as a 0.8 metre high, oval flat topped mound.

Department of Environment, 1996, Two Bowl Barrows at Moorland Gate (Schedule Document). SDV344843.

Two bowl barrows at Moorland Gate. This monument includes two bowl barrows aligned north-west to south-east on an exposed hilltop. They form part of a larger group occupying the ridge between the River Torridge to the west and the River Taw to the east. This southern barrow survives as a 0.8 metre high oval flat topped mound which measures 24.8 metres long from north to south and by 21.8 metres from east to west. The surrounding ditch survives as a buried feature circa 3.5 metres wide.
