Summary

A rabbit bury or pillow mound of probable medieval to post-medieval date has been recorded as an earthwork bank by field and aerial survey on a south-west facing slope to the south-east of Trowlesworthy Warren House. The mound is identifiable on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2007 onwards and visualisations derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017.

A ditched bank is visible as an earthwork.

Site visited on 4th April 1995. Pillow mound at SX57016456. Pillow mound within an historic field system. Survives as a 22 metre by 8 metre by 1 metre high, flat topped, sub-rectangular mound of soil and stone surrounded by a 1.5 metre wide and 0.3 metre deep ditch. A 6 metres long by 0.9 metres wide and 0.1 metre deep gully leads south-west from the mound's ditch. This gully probably represents an animal run in which rabbits and vermin could have been trapped.

An oblong mound approximately 22.5m long and up to 7m wide is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards on the south-west facing slope to the south-east of Trowlesworthy Warren House. A ditch 1.5m to 4.5m wide surrounds the mound, probably for drainage.
The mound is probably the remains of a rabbit bury or pillow mound of medieval to post-medieval date, part of Trowlesworthy Warren (MDV14148).
The mound remains clearly identifiable on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2016 and visualisations derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017.
