The ancient map of dartmoor, said to be about 1478, shows 8 gates or "yeats" to the open moor which would be in ugborough. Cantrel yeat. There is still a moor gate at cantrell. The lane leads up from torpeek and the farmland west of ugborough village. Near the gate traces of an old track can be seen on the east side of the present road.
