Name:Bakehouse at Great Weeke farm, Chagford

Summary

Bakehouse, now used as a garage. Late 16th or 17th century, altered in 19th and 20th century. Inside, there is a large bakehouse fireplace with massive granite lintel and plain surround. It has a large side oven. The roof appears to have been rebuilt in the 18th or 19th century and is made up of a-frame trusses with pegged lap-jointed collars but some 16th or 17th century principals with curving feet have been reused.

Rectangular building aligned east-west shown on the Tithe Map, to the north of the farmhouse.

Bakehouse approximately 5 metres north of Great Weeke farmhouse. The building faces south.
Bakehouse, now used as a garage. Late 16th or 17th century, altered in 19th and 20th century. Original walling of roughly coursed blocks of granite ashlar, patched and rebuilt with granite stone rubble and some cob on the wall tops; corrugated iron roof (formerly thatch).
Interior: there is a large bakehouse fireplace with massive granite lintel and plain surround. It has a large side oven. The roof appears to have been rebuilt in the 18th or 19th century and is made up of a-frame trusses with pegged lap-jointed collars but some 16th or 17th century principals with curving feet have been reused.
