Summary

19th-early 20th century cottage with thatched roof. T-shaped building plan. The main block faces south and has a two-room plan with end stacks and central entrance hall and staircase. One-room plan rear block projecting at right angles from centre. Thorn Cottage is one of a group of varied listed buildings which make up the hamlet of Thorn.

Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments (Cartographic). SDV359954.

Building appears to be shown on the Tithe map, and later 19th century and 20th century historic maps.

Thorn cottage. Late 19th-early 20th century. Granite stone rubble; granite stacks with late 19th-early 20th century brick chimney shafts; thatch roof.
Plan: T-shaped building. The main block faces south and has a two-room plan with end stacks and central entrance hall and staircase. One-room plan rear block projecting at right angles from centre. Two storeys.
Exterior: nearly symmetrical two-window front of late 19th-early 20th century casements with glazing bars. Front doorway just left of centre contains a plank door with a fixed pane window alongside containing a geometric pattern of leaded glass. First floor windows have thatch eyebrows over and roof is hipped each end. Rear block is gable-ended.
Interior not inspected. Thorn Cottage is one of a group of varied listed buildings which make up the hamlet of Thorn.
