Name:Church View Cottage and Beggars Roost, South Tawton

Summary

Church view cottage and beggars roost. Two cottages, formerly a single house. C17, probably earlier core, subdivided in the c19, modernized circa 1970. Plastered granite stone rubble and cob. Cob or granite stacks topped with plastered brick. Thatch roof. Two 2 room plan cottages facing east and built down a hillslope. Overall 4 window front of 20th century casements with glazing bars. The passage front doorway (to beggars roost) row contains a 20th century door behind a contemporary thatch roof porch on plain posts. Former hall fireplace to beggars roost has oak lintel and bread oven. Roof not inspected but straight principals shown and indicate that it is made up of probably 17th century a-frame trusses.
