Summary

Hut Circle '11' (Butler) to the south-east of the group of 12 metres diameter with walls 2 metres wide by 0.8 metres high. Two finds found in association with hut; one on the wall, another beside the perimeter fence of plantation, to the north.

Full description

Everett, C., 1978, Archaeological Survey of Some Woodlands Within the Dartmoor National Park, 19, Map 15, B8-9, sketch of flints included (Report - Survey). SDV360464.

B8 Flint SX 6447 5929. A small flake of flint (1.5 centimetres by 1.5 centimetres) found on wall of Hut 1. Mottled green-grey colour.
B9 Flint SX 6447 5930. Flint flake (4.0 centimetres by 3.0 centimetres) found beside plantation fence. Mottled green-grey flint. Found beside the perimeter fence of plantation, close to hut circle on the line of the fence. Probably a knife or scraper. Reworked on one side.

Hut '11' on the west side of the 'plantation' with a diameter of between 7.0 -7.2 metres shown with an entrance to the south-east.

One of a group of at least 10 huts to the north-west of Butter Brook Reservoir. Hut is depicted on the modern mapping.

Site visited on 30th April 2021, surveyed and photographed. Hut circle 'J' of 12 metres diameter, walls 2 metres wide, 0.8 metres high, with upright facing stones or boulders and stone rubble infill, entrance to south. Some livestock damage. Flint knife or scraper and flint flake found at hut circle by Butter Brook reservoir.
