Summary

Remains of a Medieval or later tinner's hut situated on the eastern edge of Fox Tor streamworks. An archaeological field survey in 1995 recorded a rectangular structure measuring 6.5 metres by 2.9 metres, with walls surviving to a maximum height of 1metre. A possible entrance was noted in the west side. The north wall is revetted into the streamwork edge and the interior is obscured by reeds.

Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV230175.

Des=worksheet(greeves 1988). Vis=6/5/1988 (greeves, cosford + robinson). Tinner's building, on river bank foxtor stream, due east of foxtor, 30m from bank in rushy area among workings. Aligned ssw/nne. Internal measurements: 6m x 2.7m only inner wall faces visible, wall thickness 1.5 - 2m maximum height 1.2m at sw corner. Entrance in long west side (greeves, cosford + robinson).

(12/09/1995) A ruinous tinners building lies on the E edge of the Fox Tor streamworks (Monument HOB UID 1064050) at SX 63006985. The rectangular structure measures 6.5m north to south by 2.9 metres, the walls are 1m high and 1m wide, there is a possible entrance in the west side. The north wall is revetted into the streamwork edge and the interior is obscured by reeds.
