Summary

Remains of a medieval or later tinner's hut situated on the western edge of streamworks at Swincombe Head. An archaeological field survey in 1995 recorded a rectangular structure measuring 3.4 metres by 7 metres, with walls surviving to a maximum height of 1.3 metres. The south wall is revetted into a spoil heap. No obvious entrance or internal features were recorded.

Des=worksheet(greeves 1988). Vis=6/5/1988 (greeves, Cosford + Robinson). Tinners' building near head of swincombe stream, internal measurements: 5.6m x 2.6m, aligned e-w. Maximum wall height 1.2m at ne corner. Entrance middle north side. Well built (greeves, Cosford + Robinson).

(12/09/1995) A ruined tinner's building lies on the western edge of the extensive streamworks around Swincombe Head (Monument HOB UID 1064080) at SX 63306958. The rectangular building measures 3.4m north to south by 7m and has walls of up to 1.3m high and 1.6m wide. The walls are of up to 4 courses of moorstone, and the south wall is revetted into a spoil heap. There is no obvious entrance or internal features.
