An irregular earthwork pit, circa 74 metres in length, is visible on aerial photographs taken from 1947 onwards and on images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2014. An old chalk pit is depicted and marked on the late-19th century mapping, but the earthwork pit is greater than that depicted on the available historic mapping. It is possible that the pit supplied a nearby limekiln circa 300 metres to the north-east with materials to make quicklime. It seems to have ceased operation before the end of the 19th century.
