It corresponds to an ‘Old Marl Pit’ depicted on the late-19th century OS mapping, and Plot 1300 on the Tithe map which is named Pit Close Orchard in the apportionment, indicating that extraction ended by the mid-19th century and the plot was subsequently used as orchard.
