Full description

Hut circle shown on 19th century map.

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1980, SX57SE28, SX57SE28 (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV220805.

Site visited on 25th August 1950. One of a group of four hut circles south-west of Devil's Bridge. Hut 'D' with diameter 7.0 metres and walls 0.4 metres high. Composed of single large boulders, apparently robbed of most small stones. One or two remain. Earthbound stones on exterior of circle indicate that this may have been of double walled type. No apparent entrance.

Site visited on 8th October 1992. At SX57857259, hut circle terraced into the hillslope. Simple plan and single orthostat walling type. The interior measures 6.6 metres in diameter and is defined by a 1.0 metres wide wall standing up to 0.4 metres high. It forms an outlying part of a small enclosed settlement situated immediately to the north. This hut lies within a field system which now survives largely as a buried feature and cannot therefore be mapped.

This monument includes an irregular shaped enclosure containing six stone hut circles situated on a gentle south-facing slope overlooking the valley of the River Meavy.
