A pillbox of Second World War date is visible as a structure on Dawlish Warren golf course, on aerial photographs of the 1940s onwards. It is one of at least four pillboxes that comprised part of the coastal anti-invasion defences on Dawlish Warren. The pillbox survives in-situ but is largely obscured by vegetation.

Vis=27/3/1990 (hellis) pillbox to n of dawlish warren golf club. Appears to be concrete block construction (photo).


Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV2244.

Vis=21/11/1995 (horner + dick) pillbox visible beside track and gateway onto golf course. Hard to tell what shape due to undergrowth but ap of 1974 and 1985. Clearly show it as an ene facing polygonal structure. Sunken and covered rear entrance with loopholes above (horner).

A pillbox of Second World War date is visible as a structure on Dawlish Warren golf course, on aerial photographs of the 1940s onwards. It is one of at least four pillboxes that comprised part of the coastal anti-invasion defences on Dawlish Warren. On aerial photographs of the 1940s the structure appears to be embanked or faced with earthwork and vegetation protection. On more recent images the pillbox is largely obscured by scrub vegetation. As such it is not possible to confidently determine which type of pillbox is present from the aerial photographs alone, but it might be a Type 24, possibly the thick walled variation.
