A prehistoric barrow is visible as an earthwork and cropmark mound and ditch on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, at Uplowman. The sub-circular earthworks comprise a central mound, approximately 27m in diameter, which is surrounded by an outer earthwork ditch up to 10m in width. Oblique aerial photographs of 1984 also, however, show additional sub-circular cropmarks within the central mound which is tentative evidence of a second inner ditch or perhaps more likely a reflection of the variable nature of the soil deposited during the construction of the mound or the result of slumping/erosion of the mound.
