An irregularly shaped pit circa 50 35 in length was visible on digital images derived from lidar data as an earthwork on south-west facing slopes to the east of Wick, Luppitt Parish. The visible earthwork corresponds with a pit depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map annotated as ‘Old Chalk Pit’. This extractive pit therefore probably passed out of use prior to the 1880s. The earthwork is largely obscured from view by vegetation on aerial photographs available to the survey.
