Summary

Three axial reaves forming part of the Dartmeet Parallel Reave System follow an approximate NE to SW course through Huccaby Newtake. The turf covered stony banks measure on average 2.0m wide and 0.6m high. The long rectangular enclosures created by these reaves do not appear to be sub-divided and there is no evidence of contemporary settlement.

Des=greeves, t. /huccaby farm, dartmoor: a preliminary archaeological survey/(1984)/in pf. Vis--/-/1984 (greeves) one of 3 major prehistoric reaves crossing huccaby newtake on approx ne-sw orientation (greeves).

(24/10/1988) The remains of three parallel reaves (a, b and c) and fragmentary field walls (d) situated at a maximum height of about 375m OD on an open moorland ridge about 1.5Km SW of Laughter Tor.
(c) SX 66237405 to SX 66317421. On the lower SE facing slopes the remains of the reave here are predominantly a turf covered partly stony bank merging into an E facing scarp 0.2m high on the uphill side and 0.7m maximum on the lower side and up to 1.5m wide. It peters out at its N end and also at the S where it has been destroyed by a leat.

(03/12/1996) Centred SX 657739. Three axial reaves forming part of the Dartmeet Parallel Reave System (locally SX 67 SE 95) follow an approximate NE to SW course through Huccaby Newtake. The turf covered stony banks measure on average 2.0m wide and 0.6m high. The long rectangular enclosures created by these reaves do not appear to be sub-divided and there is no evidence of contemporary settlement though two small sub-circular encloses (SX 67 SE 21 and 166) one with an adjacent hut circle lie within the newtake.
Two similar though fragmentary reaves (SX 67 SE 193) conforming to the same axis lie 600m to the S in the in-bye of Huccaby Farm.
