The milestone inscribed "Teignmouth 4 miles/ Torquay 4 1/2 miles" is situated on the northeastern side of Maidencombe Cross on the A379. It is first recorded on the OS County Series 1861 but probably dates from shortly after the improvement of the turnpike frorm Teignmouth in 1827.
