Full description

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1950, SX57SE19 (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV219145.

(21/11/1950) The remains of hut circle M (SX 5561 7487). Only about half this circle remains; there is hardly any trace of the west to east through northern arc (northern half). The remainder consists of large boulders and is in fair condition. The entrance is apparently on the south-west side. A very large boulder is built into the south-east side. Diameter appears to be around 7.0 metres, wall height: 0.5 metres.

Hut circle at SX 5562 7488 within a large partially enclosed settlement. Terraced into the hill slope and is of the simple plan and double orthostat walling type. Interior measures 5.4 metres in diameter and is defined by a 1.4 metre wide wall standing up to 0.75 metres high, except on the north side where partial robbing has removed a length of the walling. This circle forms part of a string of six huts whose linear distribution suggests that they may have once been linked together by a palisade or similar structure which now survives as a buried feature.
