Name:Hut circle U in settlement north of Hart Tor

Summary

Stone hut circle forming part of a large unenclosed stone hut circle settlement situated between Devil's Bridge and Hart Tor. The hut is terraced into the hillside and is of the simple plan and single orthostat walling type. The interior of the building measures 4.5m in diameter and is defined by a 1.1m wide wall standing up to 0.6m high. This settlement was partially excavated in 1895 by the Dartmoor Exploration Committee, but it is not known which huts were investigated.

24/8/1950 (SX 5812 7232) Hut U (5.5m diameter, walls 0.3m high). Entrance at south has been much despoiled. Condition fair.
