Summary

Gerrard (1992) shows two small huts here, so close to one another they are practically joined. Butler (1994) and the base mapping only show one hut. Diameters 3.2 - 4.0 metres; huts are partly damaged.

Full description

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1950, SX57SE20, SX67SE20 (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV276586.

Visited on 16th June 1980. Centred at SX58587244 is an open settlement of 39 huts covering nearly 5 hectares of a heather-covered south-west slope between 360 metres and 388 metres OD. Some huts are densely overgrown and in poor condition but all appear to be of Type 2.

Thirty-six stone hut circles and an irregular aggregate field system forming part of an unenclosed stone hut circle settlement 450 metres north of Hart Tor.
Hut circle terraced into the hillslope. Survives as an earthwork of the simple plan type the interior measures 4 etresm in diameter and is defined by a 1.3 metres wide bank standing up to 0.3 metres high.
Hut circle terraced into the hillslope. Simple plan and single orthostat walling type. The interior measures 3.2 metres in diameter and is defined by a 1.4 metres wide wall standing up to 0.3 metres high a short length of the west wall has seen limited damage and now survives as a buried feature.
(Gerrard shows these huts as practically joined on his plan of the settlement).

Single hut shown on the mapping here; neither could be traced with any certainty on the 2015 aerial photography, unlike the others in the settlement.

This monument includes 36 stone hut circles dispersed within an irregular aggregate field system situated on a gentle west-facing slope overlooking the valley of the River Meavy and forming part of a large unenclosed stone hut circle settlement between Hart Tor and Devil's Bridge.
