Amery Adams, E. + Dewey, H., 1950, Spindle Whorls Found in Devonshire, 326 (Article in Serial). SDV147932.

Spindle whorl found in hut, near hearth between two pairing stones. 3 inches in diameter, 7.5 inches thick, made from baked clay. This is the first instance and so far the only example of a whorl found by the Committee from a Dartmoor hut (citing, Gould, 1896, Page 185, Plate 8).

Gerrard, S., 1990-2002, Monument Protection Programme. Archaeological Item Dataset., MPP 130834 (Report - Survey). SDV277946.

(22/02/1993) Hut circle terraced into the hillslope, and of the hooked porch plan and double orthostat walling type. Interior measures 4.5m in diameter and is defined by a 1.5m wide wall standing up to 1m high. The doorway faces south and is lined on both sides with slabs, although the one on the e side has slipped into the passageway. A spread of stones, 2.7m long and 0.9m wide leading from the w side of the doorway may represent a hooked porch.
This hut was excavated by the Dartmoor Exploration Committee in 1895, and this work revealed a paved floor, a central hearth, a cooking hole, a large number of cooking stones, a flint flake and sherds of pottery from a single bowl.

Hut Circle '2' of 4.1 metres diameter is rather oval. During excavation in 1985-6 it was found to have two steps at the south-eastern entrance leading down to a partly paved floor. A flint flake and a broken spindle whorl were found within with fragments of an urn in one of the cooking pits.

(15/02/2005) One of 13 hut circles within a field system on the lower south and south-west flanks of Legis Tor. All but one of the huts are contained within five irregular, adjoining enclosures to the south of the settlement. The hut circles are largely integral with the enclosure banks though several are free-standing. All the huts have level interiors unless otherwise stated. Few display obvious entrances. All diameters are internal. Described separately; see related records.
