HER Number:MDV51202
Name:Boundary stones south of the Black-a-ven Brook, Okehampton Hamlets

Summary

Two boundary stones on the crest of Harter Hill overlooking the right bank of the Black-a-ven Brook. The larger stone is 1.5 metres high and the smaller, which stands 1 metre to the west, is 0.5 metres high. Both have the letters `OPB', for `Okehampton Parish bounds' inscribed on their north-western faces in letters 0.1 metres high. The stones mark the boundary between Okehampton Parish to the north and the Royal Forest of Dartmoor to the south. It is unclear why two stones are in place but it is likely the larger stone is a replacement for the older, smaller stone which was never removed

Butler, J., 1991, Dartmoor Atlas of Antiquities: Volume Two - The North, 217, Map 42, Site 'h' (Monograph). SDV219155.

Boundary stone 'h' in a line of stones marking the boundary between Okehampton Hamlets and Dartmoor Forest stretching from Sandy Ford to Cullever Steps. Each is inscribed 'OPB' on at least one face. Many of the stones are paired with a small slab at the foot of a tall pillar which was presumably a more easily visible replacement.
