A small pit is depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25in map in Stony Copse and labelled as Old Quarry. Subsequent map editions depict a pit increasing in size, and labelled respectively as Sand Pit, and Gravel Pit. The pit was largely overgrown on aerial photographs of 1946. A pit approximately 64m by 44m remains visible as an earthwork on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, cut by the B3195, a slip road to the A380. The pit was not transcribed by the survey.
