Plinth for a AMES Type 14 Mark III radar, this was a search radar developed to counter problems with jamming. This is a square, brick structure in English bond, measuring 2.64 by 2.62 by 2.10m. The building is in good condition.
Its four corners are comprised of rendered brick and these support the roof and project beyond the line of the brick walls. The structure sits on a concrete base, which is larger than the building (3.54 by 3.54m), and which has corner projections that reflect those of the building.
The areas between the corner projections in the base are filled with concrete, except on the south side, where two steps lead up to the entrance in the south elevation. The door into the building has been removed along with some of the adjacent brickwork.
The roof is constructed of thick (0.23m deep) concrete and incorporates four metal brackets, embedded in small concrete "domes", to which is attached a steel base/mounting that once supported superstructure that included the aerial and its cabin. This base, which consists of variously-shaped rolled steel joists, has partially come away from its brackets.
There are metal rungs for access to the roof on the east and west elevations, and the roof has a central aperture to carry cabling and turning gear into the building below.
Internally, there are the remains of electrical bcxes on the north and west elevations; one bears the make'rs name Reyrolle on its cover. It is likely that this was a switch and fuse combination. Below, on
