One of two interrogator huts at Exminster Radar Station stands south of the operations block. Beside it is a mast base. This is an Identification Friend or Foe (1FF) Mark III radar. The transmitter (i.e. the interrogator) sent out a pulse that could be received by equipment known as a transponder in a friendly aircraft. A signal was sent back to the responsor (receiver) on the ground.
This is a rectangular brick building (in English bond), measuring 3.80 by 2.52 by 2.73 metres, with a concrete floor and a concrete shuttered roof. There is a door opening on the north side protected by a blast wall on the north and east sides. There are two vents on the east and west sides, and a pipe or duct for cables and fuse box on the south side (exterior elevation, facing the adjacent aerial).
Internally, only single wooden batons on the east and west walls survive, as well as a ceramic duct in the floor for electrical cables.
Nearby, a concrete-lined and capped service hatch presumably gave access to the underground cables from this building.
The fixtures, fittings and door have been removed from the building, but the structure is very well preserved, although the ground around the building is becoming eroded.
