Sub-oval and irregularly shaped earthworks of two pits, both circa 22 metres long, and banks, between 5-40 metres long, are visible on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2019.
One of the visible earthworks at SX44646497 partly corresponds with earthwork labelled as ‘Quarry’ on the late-19th century First Edition Ordnance Survey map and as ‘Old Quarry’ on the early-20th century Second Edition Ordnance Survey map. An earthwork is also shown in this location on the 2021 Ordnance Survey MasterMap.
The earthworks are therefore interpreted as post-medieval or 19th century quarries with associated spoil heaps that had passed out of use by the early-20th century.
The earthworks are not visible on other available aerial imagery owing to thick tree cover.
