Irregularly shaped pits and banks, between 10-35 metres long, are visible as earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2019.
No features are shown in this location on the late-19th century First Edition Ordnance Survey map, although two of the pits do correspond with earthworks labelled as ‘Quarries’ on the early-20th century Second Edition Ordnance Survey map. A curvilinear earthwork is also shown here on the 2021 Ordnance Survey MasterMap.
They are therefore interpreted as late-19th or early-20th century quarries with associated spoil heaps that had probably passed out of use by the early to mid-20th century.
The earthworks are not visible on other available aerial imagery owing to thick tree cover of Hole Wood.

Ordnance Survey, 2021, MasterMap 2021 (Cartographic). SDV364015.

A curvilinear earthwork is depicted in this location.
