Vis=20/2/1995 (ea) former landowner said no slag or ash was ever noticed in the area of the two houses; he suggested the 'ash' field name came from the ash trees present (ea).

Possible furnace site. Two houses: Ashfield and Ashfield Cottage on Ordnance Survey 1:10,000 1988. Ashfield Cottages also shown at approximately ST14720131 on Ordnance Survey six inch (1891) LVIII SE. Document refers to Ashford 1725 (32/49, 337b/1/6), 1837-93 (1145m/t1-20, 21-23). Exact location of furnace not known.
