Summary

Hut circle south of eastern enclosure at Tory Brookhead north of Cholwichtown Clay Works. A crude circle of boulders of 4.8 metres diameter by 0.3 metres high lies directly to the south of the enclosure. Recorded by Gerrard (1993), Butler (1994) and in the Plym Valley survey (2002), it was not recorded during the 2019-20 aerial survey.

Full description

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1977, SX56SE34, Hut (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV138998.

(17/06/1977) To the south of the enclosures are 5 type 2 hut circles average internal diameter 6.0m. with wall 1.4m. wide; one has a southeast facing entrance and possible annex. The surrounding area is clear of boulders but there are no lynchets. (Type site SX 56 NE 11).

(SX 5860 6330) Hut circle forming part of a partially enclosed settlement. Terraced into the hillslope. Simple plan and single orthostat walling type. Interior measures 6.0 metres in diameter and is defined by a 1 metre wide wall standing up to 0.3 metres high. A north-east facing gap in the surrounding wall may represent an original doorway.
