Full description

Gerrard, S., 1990-2002, Monument Protection Programme. Archaeological Item Dataset., MPP 140474, 140482, 03/05/1995, 10/05/1995 (Report - Survey). SDV277946.

Gerrard describes this feature as a hut circle. Survives as a bank of earth and stone surrounding a circular internal area and forms part of a partially enclosed stone hut circle settlement. Terraced into the hillslope. Simple plan and earthwork walling type.
Interior is 6.5m in diameter and the surrounding 1m wide wall stands up to 0.7m high. Butler considers this structure to be a cairn, although the field evidence does suggest that it is more likely to be a stone hut circle.
Also recorded nearby (SX 5927 6621) is a round cairn measuring 3.6m diameter; up to 0.5m high. Forms part of a round cairn cemetery which includes at least five cairns scattered amongst hut circles.

SX 5923 6620. A flat-topped cairn measuring 6.1m north-south by 6.4m and 0.6m high. None of the cairns display any evidence of cists or kerbs.
Several of these features have previously been recorded as hut circles (see SX 56 NE 97) or included with record SX 56 NE 98.
