Full description
BIRD + HIRST, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV221965.
Because the water needed to power the pumping and processing of the ore was only available lower down the valley (the brimpts mine leat), the stamping mill was 350m s of the mine. A track connects the tail of the adit to the stamps loading mound at the mill. To the nw of this mound, the track crosses the mine leat by a clapper bridge (see sx67se/527), then runs n for c.100m as a shallow, cambered mound flanked by ditches 3.5m apart, vegetation differences making this section quite visible. The w ditch continues n for some distance, but both the track and the e ditch vanish until the track turns to ne and approaches the adit tail where spoil. From the mine appears to have been levelled to form a loading platform (bird + hirst).
