Full description

BIRD + HIRST, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV221965.

Brimpts north mine. Flatrod gully. Sx65307489 to sx65317480. The waterwheel at north mine stamping mill was 350m from the engine shaft wheel it powered the 6" pumps. This power was transmitted by a line of flat-rods which, because the waterwheel had to be sunk below the level of the supply leat, ran at ground level. For a length of 85m, a slight rise in the ground surface necessitated the cutting of a channel c.750mm wide for the rods to run in. This is still clearly visible (bird + hirst).
