Summary
One of a cluster of 27 hut circles recorded in 1996 on South Tawton Common. Gerrard records this hut as having a 1m wide and 0.2m high rubble bank wall surrounding a 2.4m diameter area, except on the north-east side where a scarp survives. A gap facing west-north-west may represent a doorway. This hut could not be identified from aerial images; location approximate.

Full description

(13/06/1996) One of a cluster of 27 hut circles recorded in 1996 on South Tawton Common which together with other nucleations form a large settlement complex (MDV27948). They each survive as a stone and earth bank surrounding a circular or oval area. The interiors vary in diameter between 2.4m and 4.5m, the surrounding wall varies in height between 0.15m and 0.6m. All the huts are of the simple plan type and 9 have visible doorways.
Hut A [SX 6224 9125]. A 1m wide and 0.2m high rubble bank wall surrounds a 2.4m diameter area, except on the north-east side where a scarp survives. A gap facing west-north-west may represent a doorway.
[Gerrard's grid references from 1996 (compass survey?) have been matched as closely as possible to the huts located from aerial photographs. This hut could not be identified from aerial images; location of polygon is approximate. Richards, A. F., 15/12/2023].
