Summary

Hut circle within the medieval farmstead which survives with an internal diameter of approximately 5 - 7 metres. A division has been installed by adding two parallel rows of edge-set slabs across the centre of the circle to form a double-skinned wall. This may be a later addition, dating from the medieval occupation of the site.

(20/05/1995) Hut circle lying within a medieval farmstead 160 metres north-east of Hound Tor.
Diameter 6.5 metres. Double orthostat wall 1.6 metres wide, 1 metre high. Internal area 33.16 metres. The partition wall is 0.4 metres high.

Depicted by Butler; hut circle 1. Hound Tor East prehistoric and medieval enclosure. Hut 1 is in good condition and measures 6.9 metres in diameter. It has a straight cross wall dividing the interior. It was probable reused as a pen or storehouse but has not been excavated.

(06/02/1995) The remains of the three huts in the area of Houndtor 2 have all been disturbed. One has been reused, one incorporated into a longhouse while the third has been heavily robbed.
The hut at SX 74500 79113 is 6.4m in diameter and the most complete having been reused as a store or pen during the medieval period.

One hut circle survives with some slabs of its wall still upright and in situ. The remaining shell has an internal diameter of 5 metres by 6.9 metres. A division has been installed by adding two parallel rows of edge-set slabs across the centre of the circle to form a double-skinned wall. This may be a later addition, dating from the medieval occupation of the site.

The hut at SX 7450079113 is 6.4 metres in diameter and the most complete having been reused as a store or pen during the medieval period (citing Probert, S. A. J. and Riley, H. M., 6/02/1995 Royal Commission on the Historic Monuments in England Field Investigation).

Visited 14/07/2019 Entire area totally inundated with bracken at a height of 1.5m which was too dense to even wade through. Impossible to conduct a meaningful survey of this site.
