Name:Pillow mound 200m north-west of Castor Rock

Summary

A probable pillow mound situated on the moderate north-west facing slope of Chagford Common 200m north-west of Castor Rock. The mound measures 6.2m north-west by south-east by 2.4m and stands a maximum of 0.4m high. It appears mostly turf built though some small stones are visible in the north-western end. Crude drainage channels flank the north-eastern and south-western sides.

Royal Commission for the Historical Monuments of England, 1987-1993, Duchy Farms Project Survey Visit, S. A. J. Probert (Report - Survey). SDV350839.

(11/10/1991) SX 6645 8647. A probable pillow mound situated on the moderate north-west facing slope of Chagford Common 200m north-west of Castor Rock. The mound measures 6.2m north-west by south-east by 2.4m and stands a maximum of 0.4m high. It appears mostly turf built though some small stones are visible in the north-western end. Crude drainage channels flank the north-eastern and south-western sides. (See RCHME 1991 'Castor Survey' at 1:2500 scale).

(01/04/1997) SX 6645 8646 Pillow mound lying within the Kestor coaxial field system. Measures 6m by 2.5m by 0.6m high. Ditch 1.5m wide, 0.7m deep. Looks very much like a small pillow mound.
