Full description

Butler, J., 1991, Dartmoor Atlas of Antiquities: Volume One - The East, 123 (Monograph). SDV299725.

Pillow mounds for rabbits were constructed around the head of the Rowbrook and along the east and south flanks of Vag Hill in the 17th century.

Greeves, T. A. P., 1998, Untitled Source (Worksheet). SDV346018.

Site visited 12th July 1998. One of two well-preserved and bracken-covered pillow mounds in woodland close to left bank of the River Dart, (approximately 150 metres above the point where the Rowbrook joins the Dart), and with long axes more or less parallel to the river. Approximately 20 metres by 4.5 metres and 1 metre high, with level top. Presumably linked to Vag Hill warren.

Gerrard, S., 2004, List of Sites Remaining to be Considered for Designation on Dartmoor, Site 47 (Un-published). SDV345444.

Pillow mounds and vermin traps south of Rowbrook Farm would have been considered for designation as Scheduled Ancient Monuments in 2004, but the programme was ended prematurely. These sites are considered to potentially hold equal importance to scheduled sites.

Marchand, J., 2005, Archaeology within Mel Tor Wood, 10 (Report - Survey). SDV364979.

A pillow mound measuring 20m by 4.5m by 1m located on the river terrace platform. The pillow mound is aligned to be parallel to the river Dart. The pillow mound forms part of the Vaghill warren.
The pillow mound is important in a local context. The track should be kept free of saplings and scrub vegetation. The area should be excluded from areas of new planting.
