Full description

Reed, S. + Sage, S., 1995, Archaeological Recording at 21/25, Fore Street, Totnes, 2-3, Plate 3 (Report - Watching Brief). SDV350467.

Archaeological recording by Exeter Archaeology recorded a substantial clay-bonded wall base, sealed beneath demolition material and made-ground. It appeared to run parallel to Fore Street, and was set back some 6.2 metres from the existing frontage. Probably represents the rear wall of an earlier building on Fore Street. The width (1.1 metres) and size of the construction trench (4.2 metres) suggest that it was a structural wall rather than an internal partition. It appears to continue beneath the adjacent building to the east, 19 Fore Street.
